Overview
DiscountMate is a DataBytes capstone projectplatform helping Australian shoppers compare supermarket prices, track savings, manage grocery lists and get AI-supported shopping assistance across Woolworths, Coles, ALDI and IGA. Selected as Project Lead of a 43-member cross-functional team after starting as a Data Engineer, coordinating data engineering, ML, app development and deployment workstreams end-to-end.
The problem
The team needed to move DiscountMate from fragmented local development - manual setup, unclear ownership, no reliable deployment pathway - into a coordinated, production-ready platform live on a custom domain.
My approach
Built the initial Silver-layer ETL pipeline (DuckDB, SQL transforms, Docker, PostgreSQL) and Aldi data ingestion; led GitHub Actions CI/CD to Google Cloud Run across separate frontend, backend and ML sidecar services; configured the discountmate.app custom domain through Firebase Hosting; and ran delivery governance across 4+ technical streams, reporting progress and risks at Director meetings.
